Follow-Up on Pain Management 7/18/2005

A few weeks ago I recommended a Wall Street Journal article regarding end of life issues, including pain management.
There are many things which I am not including being a physician and I have no intention of offering medical advice here. One thing I am, however, is oriented toward finding solutions to problems.
The attached WSJ article laments the level of pain management treatment options available in the US but is at least somewhat optimistic on three counts:
that the management of pain is becoming a topic of concern around the country,
that various organizations have begun to help people understand their options and
that physicians are beginning to practice pain management as a specialty.
In South Central Indiana such practices include that of Michael Whitworth, MD of Advanced Pain Management (www.apmsurgery.com or 812/342-8300).
If you find yourself with a problem of any sort, I suggest you work on getting it resolved. If that problem happens to be chronic pain, you might consider contacting APM or a similar practice. I assure you that there is a physician who will write a prescription for the needed medications and there is a pharmacy which will fill it for you.
Life is difficult enough without having to suffer needlessly.
